Starting the Journey Through The Mississippi Hills
Share
To begin my discovery of the Hills, I turned to a very important and rich resource, the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area Alliance. According to their website information, the Mississippi Hills National Area was designated by Congress in 2009. The limits of the area stretch from I-55 to the west over to the Alabama line and from Highway 14 to the south up to the Tennessee border. The area covers all or part of 30 counties in Mississippi. I plan to use this resource as I travel through the Mississippi Hills.
The Mississippi Hills are also the site of Mississippi's highest natural point, Woodall Mountain, which is located near the Natchez Trace Parkway. This scenic parkway travels over 444 miles through Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi and offers numerous recreational opportunities and historic markers. In addition to discovering the HIlls, I will also plan to discover the notable places on the parkway.
