Creating art for you

Walters House

I would love to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art that celebrates a place, person, or memory that is meaningful to you. Whether it's your current or childhood home, a family farm, a wedding or engagement location, a beloved pet, or another cherished image, I'll create a custom piece designed just for you.

Every artwork can be personalized with your preferred size, colors, and meaningful details that make it uniquely yours. For example, I once created a drawing of a childhood home and included a clothesline because it was a special part of the family's memories. Those personal touches help transform each piece into a treasured keepsake that tells your story.

Starting the conversation

The best place to begin is through my Contact page. Send me a message so we can discuss your ideas and the artwork you have in mind. I have found that the best commissioned pieces begin with a clear understanding of your expectations.

I typically work from photographs. Whenever possible, I prefer to take my own reference photos and can travel up to 50 miles from Oxford, Mississippi, to do so. If you already have photographs you'd like me to use, that's perfectly fine. I may ask for additional photos from different angles or poses to ensure I have everything I need before beginning the artwork. Reference photos will need to be provided before we move forward.

As we discuss your commission, we'll also talk about any changes you'd like made to the reference photo. For example, we can add or remove elements, adjust the composition, or make other changes to create the artwork you envision. Before I begin, we'll agree on the subject, layout, and overall design of the piece.

Some of the questions we'll discuss include:

  • Will the artwork be created in pen and ink, watercolor, or a combination of both?
  • What size would you like the finished piece to be?
  • How will it be matted or framed? If you're matching an existing piece, knowing those dimensions is especially helpful.
  • What paper would you like me to use? I typically work on Strathmore Mixed Media paper (184 lb., acid-free, white, smooth), which is excellent for pen and ink with watercolor. If your piece will be entirely watercolor, I may recommend a heavier watercolor paper.
  • Are there specific colors you'd like to emphasize or include?
  • Would you like additional prints of the finished artwork?

Every commission is unique, so additional questions may come up as we work together.
