A trip to New Albany, Mississippi
Share
My wife, Sandy, grew up in New Albany, Indiana so it was surprising to find New Albany, Mississippi just an hour or so north of Oxford. We recently went on a trip there and found a few subjects to draw as well as some interesting attractions in the city. We ate at 2 Sisters Diner which serves southern home style cooking.

Our first stop was the Union County Heritage Museum. It is a great way to understand the history of this city in the Hills and the connection to the railroads, sawmills, various wars, the local Ingomar Indian Mounds, furniture building and fossils in the area.

The museum also features the life of William Faulkner with the Faulkner library and literary garden.

We also visited the Tanglefoot Trail, This 44 mile trail follows the original Gulf and Ship Island Railroad line established by Col. William Clark Falkner, William Faulkner's, great grandfather. IT travels across the Mississippi Hills country and passes through six communities. The gateway to the trail starts just off Bankhead Street in New Albany.
Our last stops were to visit each of the murals found in New Albany and there are at least four notable murals.
Finally I found a few subjects that I might consider drawing.
